One last truck ride

I buried Hudson today.

It was harder than I thought, and I expected it to be tough. He went quietly at the vet’s after a morning of being led around by a blanket under his belly so he could pee one last time on his domain.

I’m not as sad at the fact that he’s gone as I am at the selfishness of how I feel. I’m sad because I’ll miss him, not happy that he’s finally young again and able to run around wherever dogs end up, with working eyes, ears and hips. But really, the whole dog/person relationship is based on selfishness, isn’t it, because they give us far more than we can ever give them.

Jenn has been very supportive and Hunter was able to give Hudson a hug and thank him for being her friend. We’re all going to miss him.

  1. I’m very sorry to hear about Hudson. That’s always a tough situation to deal with. Nice picture of him.

  2. Awwww… so sorry to hear about the big guy. :(

You’re right, they give us way more than we can ever give them, but god knows many of us try, in our dog-obsessed worlds!! :)

I remember wayyyy back when you just had him (when we all had fewer dogs!) and the stories you shared about him and his brother. I’m glad I got to meet him when you guys were here. RIP Hudson.

  3. Hi Guys, We are so sorry to hear about Hudson, he was a great freind. We know how hard it was when Gizmo went, so we know how you feel. Great memories will make the hurt go away in time.

  4. Been thinking of you guys all weekend. Sorry about Hudson. He will live on with all of us. I have his picture beside the tv so Leo and I look at him everyday.

  5. Sorry I did not come to the phone when you called. As soon as a heard Mom talking and realized what you were calling about, I went and sat down and had a cry. I have just had another cry when I read your blog. Loved that dog. And love to all of you.

  6. Thanks, everybody, for the kind words. I’m glad that so many people got to know Hudson and knowing this helps, too.

  7. Evan, I’m so sorry to hear about Hudson. He was amazing – and thank you for always allowing me to spoil him with treats! Our thoughts are with you guys. Rest in peace Huson.

  8. I’m with you Bruce, I read Evan’s entry about Hudson and am now sitting in the office here at the resort and trying to swallow the lump in my throat.
Hailey told me Evan called to give her the news before we read it on the blog, thanks for that Evan…still tough to read it though. He was a lovely dog and now that I know how a dog can win your heart, I can really sympathize with how you are feeling.
He was lucky to have had you and he had a wonderful life because of you.

Love and hugs to you all

  9. You are so right…my dogs give me more than I could ever give them. Thanks for the reminder; sometimes I take them for granted.
